1. Private Pilot License (PPL)

  • Flight Training Cost: $10,000 – $15,000
  • Includes approximately 40 hours of flight training
  • Ground School Cost: $500 – $1,000
  • Additional Fees:
  • FAA Medical Examination: $100 – $200
  • Written Exam Fee: $175
  • Checkride Fee: $700 – $900

Estimated Total: $11,750 – $17,350

2. Instrument Rating (IR)

  • Flight Training Cost: $8,000 – $12,000
  • Typically requires 40 hours of instrument training
  • Ground School Cost: $500 – $800
  • Additional Fees:
  • Knowledge Test Fee: $175
  • Checkride Fee: $700 – $900

Estimated Total: $9,300 – $13,750

3. Commercial Pilot License (CPL)

  • Flight Training Cost: $15,000 – $20,000
  • Additional flight hours beyond PPL required, approximately 100 hours total
  • Ground School Cost: $800 – $1,200
  • Additional Fees:
  • FAA Written Exam Fee: $175
  • Checkride Fee: $700 – $900

4. Flight Instructor Certificate (CFI)

  • Flight Training Cost: $5,000 – $8,000
  • Ground School Cost: $300 – $600
  • Additional Fees:
  • Knowledge Test Fee: $175
  • Checkride Fee: $1000 – $1600

Estimated Total: $6,050 – $9,550

5. Additional Costs

  • Flight Hours Beyond Program: $180 – $250 per hour, depending on aircraft type
  • Books & Supplies: $300 – $500
  • Headset: $100 – $1,000 (options vary)
